sometimes you just need a friend

Picture this if you will:

Sunday morning we drove a mile (YEAH!!!) to Rockwall FBC. We'd already explained to Addie that we were going to a new church and I know that all this change has to be confusing for her. Keri has a coaching buddy named Mike that goes to FBC. His family met us in the parking lot and took us in. They have 4 kids-1 boy and 3 girls. We met up with them and went through all the introductions and then we headed in to drop the kids off and go to Sunday school. I was holding Doak and Addie was walking between Keri and me. I looked back and saw Addie and Mike's 3 year old daughter holding hands. It was so precious. I pointed it out to Mike's wife Mandy and she said that they'd talked this morning about how this was a new place for Addie. And Mandy told her 3 year old Aubrey that sometimes when you are new it makes things much more comfortable if you have a friend to go with you. So Aubrey came right up and held Addie's hand all the way to their class. Thinking about it during the worship service made me tear up! What a beautiful picture of friendship and it was the perfect representation of how Keri and I felt going to a new church alongside our new friends Mike and Mandy. Thank you God for giving us friends to walk beside us!

Natalie,
I've been reading/stalking your blog for months now which has been so fun! I emailed Keri a few months ago and it was great to hear from him. I can't wait to see the Rockwall adventure unfold!

Going to new churches IS anxiety provoking...and we have totally been there, too. It always helps to have kind friends like yours to help you through the process. I am smiling at the thought of Miss Addie holding hands and making a sweet friends so fast. Good for her (and for you)!

OK, why is it so much easier for kids? Why can't I walk into an unknown situation and just grab a hand and say "be my friend!"
