Addie's storybook parade and parent involvement



The week before Halloween Addie's school had a storybook parade. The kids were to dress as a character from one of their favorite books. Addie chose to be Domino the kitten from one of her favorite chapter books. We had fun piecing together a costume to transform her into her favorite cat.

Nanna and Pop Pop had driven into town the night before and were able to come see the parade. We all walked Addie to school then waited in the cafeteria for the parade to start. Doak had the most fun watching all the costumed kids, and he especially loved watching for ninjas!

That afternoon was Parent involvement for 2nd grade. I got to go up and do pumpkin math with Addie. I loved watching her interact with her classmates and spending uninterrupted time with my big girl!

Addie's first day of second grade

Addie started school Monday August 27th. Although she loves summer life she wasn't sad to start back to school. She's so happy-go-lucky and just hopped right back into 'school life'.

I know I say this every year but looking back at the start of first grade, I can see how much she has grown and physically changed!

Addie has some friends from last year in her class again and she's enjoyed playing with them again. This year she has a homeroom teacher who instructs in language arts, social studies, and spelling and she switches to another teacher for math and science. That seems so grown up!  We think 2nd grade is going to be great.  We can't wait to see what Addie learns this year!

the end of first grade

The last week of school was a busy one! The boys and I attended the first grade awards ceremony. IMG_8089

She got an award for having straight A's all year (at the old school and new) and from her teacher she got the confidence award. She couldn't have done better transitioning to her new school. Her classroom teacher and PE teacher both told me that she never acted like "the new kid". Addie just jumped in, made friends, figured out how the school worked and adapted so quickly. We're proud of her and so blessed by how God took care of our girl.

First grade had field day on the last day of school Field day was held on the sports field behind Addie's school and right next to our favorite park. The boys and I went up to see Addie compete and help serve her class lunch.

Doak, who has become super outgoing and confident lately, hung out with some of the first grade boys and even challenged them to arm wrestle!

First Grade Program-Singing in the Rain


IMG_7871 The first graders at Addie's new school put on a music program called Singing in the Rain. All the students wore rain ponchos and rain boots. The program was really well done with cute backdrop, props, instruments, motions, and songs.

IMG_7889 After the program we went to Open House in Addie's room. It was great to see her new classroom and get an idea of what she experiences each day at school!

Addie's first day of school: Houston style




Addie started school here right after we moved. After emailing with Addie's new school prior to the move we were told to come up to school Monday at 8:15 to fill out paperwork and meet Addie's new teacher. The staff was so friendly and Addie's teacher and class were waiting for her to arrive when we walked down to the classroom. The teacher gave Addie a big hug, said hi to me, and then we left. I have been praying for Addie (all the kids, but especially Addie) during this transition. God took our biggest concerns and made it go even better than we could have imagined.



We picked up a happy girl from school and went out for ice cream to celebrate.

Sweet Doak has had a few hard days. I think the transition has been hardest on him. But some dedicated Mommy time and a lunch out with Daddy seems to have perked him up!

Little Bluebird




Addie and all the first graders put on a music program last week called 'The Bear Went Over the Mountain'. Addie was so excited to dress as a bluebird and she delivered her line perfectly into the microphone!

Valentine's Day

Our Valentine's Day started off with a yummy breakfast, cards from loved ones, and Valentines from Mommy and Daddy.

Doak's class had an ice cream sundae themed party and Brock and I were invited to join in on the fun.

His teachers had a cute Valentine bingo game that Doak loved playing! After Doak had consumed plenty of sugar we slipped out of the party a little early to head to the next party!

Addie's class party was fun! She loves having us up at school and I love being there. It is a little difficult, however, to keep Doak and (especially) Brock contained in a full classroom with 23 kids along with parents and other little siblings!

Thank goodness for friends! Jennifer helped me wrangle Brock, we took turns holding him and both got a good arm workout that day!

After the kids had their fun, it was time for the adults to party! Keri called our favorite babysitter, Meredith, to come and keep the kids for the evening. He also made an appointment for me to get my hair done and arranged for a dinner out for us! We loved the time out together and I'm so thankful for a husband who loves me so well!

Boosterthon Fun Run

Addie's school does a big fundraiser every semester. The past two years they have done Boosterthon, which I can really get behind. The kids don't have to sell anything (which means the parents and grandparents don't have to buy any junk.) Instead they ask family for pledges for each lap they run at the Fun Run.

The morning of the Fun Run it was 48 degrees with a windchill in the 30's. I (wrongly) assumed the run would be inside. Here is Addie's class, with Emma leading the way!

Addie only had her track suit jacket to keep her warm. Each time the kids completed a lap, a volunteer marked a lap on the back of his or her shirt. Which meant the kids had to wear their jackets backward to keep their shirt backs visible!

The boys and I came to support our favorite first grader! Doak only lasted a few minutes before he went to sit in the car with his best buddy Harrison and H's grandpa.

Addie was so afraid that she was going to fall in the mud. I totally understood her fears, and after a pep talk from Mommy she started walking laps, while wearing a sad look on her face.

Towards the end of the 30 minute run she perked up and even started running. After the run was complete she was happy!

Addie completed 28 laps (goal was 30) and I think Haley did the maximum of 35.

As usual, Brock was a happy little boy and enjoyed cheering for his sister. It was so COLD, and he didn't understand why he couldn't crawl around on the muddy ground. After we kissed Addie goodbye, got Doak, and drove home we enjoyed a lazy morning with hot chocolate and soup to warm us up after a cool morning!

Thanksgiving parties

Addie and Doak both had parties at school the week before Thanksgiving.

The first graders lined the halls with their Indian head dresses, paper bag vests, and homemade place mats. They sampled foods that might have been eaten on the first Thanksgiving like popcorn, beef jerkey, and dried fruit.

Emma and Haley have been such sweet friends to Addie. They all go to church together and this year they are in the same class!

After leaving Addie's school, it was time to party with Doak. He also wore a feather headband, but his snacks were nothing the Pilgrims and Indians would have eaten!

He made a turkey from an oreo, reece's pb cup, chocolate chips, and candy corn.

Doak and his buddy Kaden have been in class together for two years.
