Nutcracker girls night

IMG_8609

This November while sitting in the doctor's office waiting room Addie saw a poster advertising a local performance of The Nutcracker Ballet. We decided to make a girls night of it! Addie has read the story of the Nutcracker and has seen a movie about it, but this was her first time to see a live performance. We both enjoyed it so much! We're hoping to make it a new tradition.

Halloween 2012

IMG_8492

This year for Halloween we had a football player (again!), a Ninja from Ninjago, and Domino the cat.

 IMG_8498

Addie chose to be a cat at her Storybook Parade and she also wanted to wear the same thing for Halloween.  For our night of trick or treating she added a black cat mask.

 IMG_8501

Doak is obsessed with Ninjago!  Luckily we had a dress up that would pass as a ninja, and we ordered some foam nunchucks online to complete the look.  Can you tell he likes it?

Since sweet Brock isn't quite old enough the voice his opinion about costumes yet, and since he LOVES all things football we decided to go with that for his costume again this year.  The vintage helmet and pads are decor from the boys' room and the pants and shirt are what he wears to the Mustang games.  No cost costume=score one for mommy!

A local shopping center held trick or treating starting at 5pm so I took the kids there before Keri got home from work.  It was much less intimidating to have all 3 kids on a sidewalk than going through a neighborhood.

After a quick Sonic car picnic we met Keri at our friends Lorissa and Mark's house.  The daddies took the kids around the neighborhood while Lorissa and I stayed at the house to pass out candy and visit.  Halloween will never be my favorite holiday, but I do love seeing the kids get so excited, dressing them up, and spending time with our family and friends!

fall photo shoot

I rarely get out my real camera these days. But when I pulled it out on Halloween afternoon there seemed to be perfect lighting and cooperative, cute, happy kids. IMG_8464 IMG_8466 IMG_8469 IMG_8482 IMG_8484 IMG_8476 Remind me to get my camera out more often!

carving pumpkins with Nanna and Pop Pop

IMG_8454

Nanna and Pop Pop brought pumpkins and carving supplies to do with the kids.

IMG_8455

All 3 kids got their own pumpkin and got to choose a design. Brock was a little too sleepy for the pumpkin carving party, so Pop Pop designed and executed his for him.

IMG_8456

Pop Pop and Addie worked on a kitty for her pumpkin.

Nanna and Doak picked a picture out of a book called 'grave escape'.

the end result! The kids had a great time-thanks Nanna and Pop Pop!

Addie's storybook parade and parent involvement

The week before Halloween Addie's school had a storybook parade. The kids were to dress as a character from one of their favorite books. Addie chose to be Domino the kitten from one of her favorite chapter books. We had fun piecing together a costume to transform her into her favorite cat.

IMG_8448

Nanna and Pop Pop had driven into town the night before and were able to come see the parade. We all walked Addie to school then waited in the cafeteria for the parade to start. Doak had the most fun watching all the costumed kids, and he especially loved watching for ninjas!

That afternoon was Parent involvement for 2nd grade. I got to go up and do pumpkin math with Addie. I loved watching her interact with her classmates and spending uninterrupted time with my big girl!

Walk to school

One of my favorite things about our new home is how close it is to Addie's school! We ride bikes or walk to school in the morning and again in the afternoon to pick Addie up most days.

I love the trees and trails and I pray I never get used to the beauty here.

Addie's new glasses

A few weeks ago I noticed Addie making some strange movements with her eyes while reading or watching tv. When I talked to Addie she told me that she had been having trouble seeing the board at school. I called and made an appointment with an eye doctor right away. We found out that Addie is near sighted and her vision is 20/70. I'm so glad we got her seen quickly!

Addie and I had a fun mommy/daughter date to pick out glasses. We had fun but it was so hard to decide! In the end I let her pick her favorite pair and I think they are so cute on her!

So far Addie is happy to wear her glasses and just so glad to be able to see!

Addie's first day of second grade

IMG_8353

Addie started school Monday August 27th. Although she loves summer life she wasn't sad to start back to school. She's so happy-go-lucky and just hopped right back into 'school life'.

IMG_8350

I know I say this every year but looking back at the start of first grade, I can see how much she has grown and physically changed!

IMG_8355

Addie has some friends from last year in her class again and she's enjoyed playing with them again. This year she has a homeroom teacher who instructs in language arts, social studies, and spelling and she switches to another teacher for math and science. That seems so grown up!  We think 2nd grade is going to be great.  We can't wait to see what Addie learns this year!

the end of first grade

The last week of school was a busy one! The boys and I attended the first grade awards ceremony. IMG_8089

Addie at the first grade awards ceremony.

IMG_8091

She got an award for having straight A's all year (at the old school and new) and from her teacher she got the confidence award. She couldn't have done better transitioning to her new school. Her classroom teacher and PE teacher both told me that she never acted like "the new kid". Addie just jumped in, made friends, figured out how the school worked and adapted so quickly. We're proud of her and so blessed by how God took care of our girl.

Last day of first grade! First day of first grade here.

IMG_8095

First grade had field day on the last day of school Field day was held on the sports field behind Addie's school and right next to our favorite park. The boys and I went up to see Addie compete and help serve her class lunch.

Brock had the best time running around the field and playing at the park.

Doak, who has become super outgoing and confident lately, hung out with some of the first grade boys and even challenged them to arm wrestle!

field day fun!

I can't believe Addie is a second grader now!

Addie's 3rd lost tooth

IMG_7997

Addie went to school May 21st with a top loose tooth. She came home with a super loose tooth on the bottom! We wiggled it a bit and then Daddy came home. Keri had a plan to pull the tooth.  He reached in to wiggle it and just pulled it right out! Addie couldn't believe it was out since she felt no pain, and she was just so excited. Last summer she had her two bottom front teeth pulled by the dentist, so this was her first real loose tooth experience. I love her holey smile!

First Grade Program-Singing in the Rain

IMG_7871 The first graders at Addie's new school put on a music program called Singing in the Rain. All the students wore rain ponchos and rain boots. The program was really well done with cute backdrop, props, instruments, motions, and songs.
IMG_7881 Addie is in the middle, pink poncho, pink bow IMG_7878 Brock was a captive audience and he really enjoyed the music. (Doak did too but he's much harder to capture on film!) IMG_7889 After the program we went to Open House in Addie's room. It was great to see her new classroom and get an idea of what she experiences each day at school!
