six: sweet and simple

IMG_6185

Our sweet Addie is six! Six sounds so old . . . Keri and I can't believe how quickly the past 6 years have gone by. Addie is becoming a young lady now. She is growing and changing everyday it seems. I'm so proud of her kind heart, friendly nature, generous spirit, hard working attitude, and how much she loves life.

For Addie's birthday this year we kept it really sweet and simple. The night before her birthday we met Cody, Ashley, Rylan, and Hudson at The Villages of Fairview. We ate a great dinner, then hit the sandy beach and spray park area.

Keri had to work all day on Addie's birthday, but he had a special present wrapped and waiting when Addie woke up. She had been wanting a pillow pet for so long and was thrilled to find a cute ladybug pillow pet from Daddy!

We walked to a neighborhood pool to meet some friends for a few hours of swimming. I made cupcakes and brought some lemonade and we sat right on the ground and sang Happy Birthday to Addie. My friend Jennifer and I stood and watched these sweet kiddos and decided this was the way to go for birthdays. Simple, sweet, no stress, no excess gifts, no worries and a happy birthday girl. Sometimes its fun to have a big party, but I love that our kids are happy with homemade cupcakes and a few friends. Simple.

simple summer nights

IMG_0867

Daytime hours are stifling in Texas heat, but the summer nights can be so sweet! Last night after a super hot day, I filled up the baby pool, put the kids in their bathing suits, put on MY bathing suit, and jumped right in. The water was so refreshing and a little outdoor time did us all a load of good! After playing for an hour or so, I went in to make dinner and we decided to eat outside in our bathing suits-nothing better than that! One good thing about Keri being gone during football season is that I can make really random things for dinner and no one notices. (he eats whatever I put in front of him, but he's not a breakfast for dinner person) The kids and I had egg and cheese burritos and fruit and it was delicious!

After dinner we got back in the pool for a while and then the kids headed over to the play set to do some tricks for me.

the simple life

I copied my brilliant friend Thayer and filled up Addie's water table with dry pinto beans. Addie has had so much fun pouring, throwing, scooping (and maybe eating, oops!) the beans. I love it that my daughter is so happy with the small things in life. Forget the expensive toys-she'd rather play with beans, hold a package of gum (weird I know!) or play with an empty water bottle!
