Doak's first day of pre-K

IMG_8360

Doak started pre-k on September 6th. He is attending the same school that he went to last May. After a home visit from his teachers plus a time to play in his classroom with mommy around he was so excited! Doak has always liked school but I've never seen him this eager to go. He had a great first day and can't wait to go back again!

Fundraiser fun Friday

A few weeks ago Doak's new preschool held their annual fundraiser- a carnival! The kids were so excited to play all the games and bounce in the bouncy house.

Doak is sometimes a little shy and he wanted me to go to each booth with him. He tested his throwing skills at this booth and had 100% accuracy.

Daddy was so proud!

Addie spun the wheel and came out with lots of candy!

Addie chose a rainbow at the face painting booth.

Doak opted for a snake

Brockstar was along for the ride, taking in all the action from the comfort of his stroller!

After the carnival we drove over to Culvers for some burgers and frozen custard.

I warned Keri that this picture would be on the blog! We will see if he makes me take it down!

What a fun night to spend some relaxing, quality time with the ones I love most!

Doak and his new preschool

IMG_7890 Our original plan when moving here was not to put Doak in school this year. I figured that he would enjoy a break from school. But honestly, the past few weeks have been rough for Doak. We've rocked his little world by moving him away from his friends, his school, his church, and his routine. So after some discussion and a lot of research we started him in school last week. He is loving it so far and seems to enjoy the scheduled playtime and interaction with other kids and other adults. He will go to this school next year too and we are excited about the program there!

Cowboy Doak

Doak's class has been learning about Texas. He has been coming home telling me the state flower, state bird, and singing 'Deep in the Heart of Texas'. For the last day of their Texas unit all the kids dressed as cowboys. Doak was so excited to get dressed up. This picture gave me a glimpse of what Keri must have looked like on most days in his childhood. What a cutie!

Valentine's Day

IMG_7732

Our Valentine's Day started off with a yummy breakfast, cards from loved ones, and Valentines from Mommy and Daddy.

IMG_7733

Doak's class had an ice cream sundae themed party and Brock and I were invited to join in on the fun.

IMG_7734

His teachers had a cute Valentine bingo game that Doak loved playing! After Doak had consumed plenty of sugar we slipped out of the party a little early to head to the next party!

IMG_7737

Addie's class party was fun! She loves having us up at school and I love being there. It is a little difficult, however, to keep Doak and (especially) Brock contained in a full classroom with 23 kids along with parents and other little siblings!

IMG_7741

Thank goodness for friends! Jennifer helped me wrangle Brock, we took turns holding him and both got a good arm workout that day!

Trinity and Addie-pretty in pink!

After the kids had their fun, it was time for the adults to party! Keri called our favorite babysitter, Meredith, to come and keep the kids for the evening. He also made an appointment for me to get my hair done and arranged for a dinner out for us! We loved the time out together and I'm so thankful for a husband who loves me so well!

Doak's Art Show

Doak's preschool has an annual art show. Each class studies a particular artist then the class creates their own art in the style of the featured artist.

This year Doak's class studied Seurat's Sunday Afternoon on the Island of la Grande Jatte.

Thanksgiving parties

IMG_7354

Addie and Doak both had parties at school the week before Thanksgiving.

IMG_7356

The first graders lined the halls with their Indian head dresses, paper bag vests, and homemade place mats. They sampled foods that might have been eaten on the first Thanksgiving like popcorn, beef jerkey, and dried fruit.

IMG_7349

Emma and Haley have been such sweet friends to Addie. They all go to church together and this year they are in the same class!

After leaving Addie's school, it was time to party with Doak. He also wore a feather headband, but his snacks were nothing the Pilgrims and Indians would have eaten!

IMG_7359

He made a turkey from an oreo, reece's pb cup, chocolate chips, and candy corn.

Doak and his buddy Kaden have been in class together for two years.

Doak's Meet the Teacher and First Day

IMG_6837

Tuesday August 30th was Doak's Meet the Teacher. Doak will attend the same preschool as last year and he was excited to be back at his school! In true Doak fashion, he was shy with the teachers and his friends from last years' class.

IMG_6838

Right away he found the blocks and cars and all was right with the world!

IMG_6987

On his first day we got up bright and early, had a good breakfast and made it to school early which never happens! I have to mention that after I took this picture I noticed these shorts were sagging a little bit. They were huge! So I switched them out for a different pair. Here are his first day pictures from last year. He has changed so much in the past year!

IMG_6988

That's a genuine Doak smile-I love it when I catch one!

IMG_6992

Once we got to school he happily walked in, put away his nap mat and lunch box, and got busy working. He didn't want to pose for any more pictures, but I caught one of him hard at work counting fish to place in a fish bowl. He is really into ocean creatures thanks to the movie Oceans. Doak didn't even look up when I said goodbye and he had a great first day of school! We are blessed to have a wonderful preschool program for him and his teachers seem so sweet and kind. It's going to be a great year!

Doak's last day of preschool

IMG_5963

Doak loved preschool this year! His last day was May 24. He was so excited because his teachers got the whole class McDonald's happy meals, which I never let him have!

The moms attempted to get a good picture of the whole class and here's the best I got.

Doak has changed so much this year. We're so thankful for his experience at school this year and we look forward to more learning next year!

dress up day

Addie and Doak both had dress up days at school last week.

IMG_2558

Addie has MISMATCH DAY. She wore a floral dress, polka dot leggings, two different socks, two different shoes, one pigtail, one braid, and two different bows. What a sight!

IMG_2559

Doak learned all about TEXAS last week so he dressed up as a cowboy. He wore a checked shirt, jeans, his new cowboy boots, and chaps. Yee-haw!

Doak's first day of preschool

IMG_1114

Sweet Doak started back to preschool today. He has been so excited for the past month and couldn't wait to get up and go this morning.

IMG_1118

We arrived a little early and spent some time checking out the fish tank in the lobby and posing for a few pictures.

IMG_1117

Then we sat down for a few minutes and found a great surprise-a gecko on the floor close by.

IMG_1126

This little guy kept Doak entertained for at least 10 minutes while we waited for his class to open. Geckos really creep me out, but this one was stuck in a spider web so i didn't mind him so much!

IMG_1123

IMG_1127

When the doors to the classrooms opened Doak happily greeted his teachers, put away his things, and started playing with the loveys (aka stuffed animals). He kissed me goodbye and watched me walk away with no worries or tears-what a big boy! Doak had a wonderful day and got a great report from his teachers!

While Doak was at school, I spent the day with my precious new friend, Angie. We both got pedicures and then went to lunch. It was a wonderful day for mommies and kids! I'm looking forward a few months of quiet Tuesdays and Thursdays before baby Brock arrives!
