Halloween 2012

IMG_8492

This year for Halloween we had a football player (again!), a Ninja from Ninjago, and Domino the cat.

Addie chose to be a cat at her Storybook Parade and she also wanted to wear the same thing for Halloween.  For our night of trick or treating she added a black cat mask.

Doak is obsessed with Ninjago!  Luckily we had a dress up that would pass as a ninja, and we ordered some foam nunchucks online to complete the look.  Can you tell he likes it?

Since sweet Brock isn't quite old enough the voice his opinion about costumes yet, and since he LOVES all things football we decided to go with that for his costume again this year.  The vintage helmet and pads are decor from the boys' room and the pants and shirt are what he wears to the Mustang games.  No cost costume=score one for mommy!

A local shopping center held trick or treating starting at 5pm so I took the kids there before Keri got home from work.  It was much less intimidating to have all 3 kids on a sidewalk than going through a neighborhood.

After a quick Sonic car picnic we met Keri at our friends Lorissa and Mark's house.  The daddies took the kids around the neighborhood while Lorissa and I stayed at the house to pass out candy and visit.  Halloween will never be my favorite holiday, but I do love seeing the kids get so excited, dressing them up, and spending time with our family and friends!

fall photo shoot

I rarely get out my real camera these days. But when I pulled it out on Halloween afternoon there seemed to be perfect lighting and cooperative, cute, happy kids. IMG_8464 IMG_8466 IMG_8469 IMG_8482 IMG_8484 IMG_8476 Remind me to get my camera out more often!

carving pumpkins with Nanna and Pop Pop

IMG_8454

Nanna and Pop Pop brought pumpkins and carving supplies to do with the kids.

IMG_8455

All 3 kids got their own pumpkin and got to choose a design. Brock was a little too sleepy for the pumpkin carving party, so Pop Pop designed and executed his for him.

Pop Pop and Addie worked on a kitty for her pumpkin.

Nanna and Doak picked a picture out of a book called 'grave escape'.

the end result! The kids had a great time-thanks Nanna and Pop Pop!

Addie's storybook parade and parent involvement

The week before Halloween Addie's school had a storybook parade. The kids were to dress as a character from one of their favorite books. Addie chose to be Domino the kitten from one of her favorite chapter books. We had fun piecing together a costume to transform her into her favorite cat.

Nanna and Pop Pop had driven into town the night before and were able to come see the parade. We all walked Addie to school then waited in the cafeteria for the parade to start. Doak had the most fun watching all the costumed kids, and he especially loved watching for ninjas!

That afternoon was Parent involvement for 2nd grade. I got to go up and do pumpkin math with Addie. I loved watching her interact with her classmates and spending uninterrupted time with my big girl!

Happy Halloween!

IMG_1583
Happy Halloween from Lightning and Sleeping Beauty!

We had the best Halloween! Our friends the Hubers invited us over for dinner and trick or treating in their neighborhood. The kids played and ate in the backyard with all the daddies supervising and the moms enjoyed a quiet dinner inside : ) Then we all set out in the neighborhood for some candy! We had fun, but Doak was done after about 5 houses-I'll remember that for next year and just send Keri and Addie out for the loop around the neighborhood.

not the best picture, but I think Doak's eyes look like Lightning in this one!

spooky walk

Tonight after dinner the kids went in the backyard to play while I cleaned up dinner. It seemed to get dark super early and I wasn't surprised when they came right back in to find a flashlight to "look for ghosts". I quickly finished the dishes and then suggested that we go on a spooky walk around the neighborhood with our flashlight to look at Halloween decorations.

Before our walk we stopped to take pictures with the kids' pumpkins and our old scarecrow.

Addie brought a flashlight, Doak brought a monster truck-anyone surprised? You would think Doak was scared in this picture, but this is his "I'm trying really hard to smile for the picture so we can get this show on the road Mom" face!

There were quite a few houses in the neighborhood with Halloween decor-the kids loved these orange lights the most.

Checking out ghosts in a tree on our way home.

When we got home I lit some candles and got out a cool colored Halloween light that Cookie sent us and the kids had a spooky bath time in the dark. We finished the evening with a few Halloween stories before bed.

Happy Halloween!
