Another fun day trip during our staycation was an outing to the Houston Zoo.

One of the best parts of our staycation was that Keri had the whole week off, no workouts, no film, no camps!  He and the kids had a drumming session in the African section of the zoo.

All the kids thought this tunnel in the aquarium portion of the zoo was so cool!  Brock would have stayed here for hours I bet!

field trip

At the end of April, all of the kindergarten classes from Addie's school took a field trip to the Dallas Zoo. Parents were asked to volunteer, and after Addie's teacher said I could bring the boys, I signed up to help. About a week before the field trip date Addie told me that she wished Daddy could come too. So he asked his principal if he could miss TAKS testing and he got the day off! (his assigned duty had been to supervise kids in the gym, not give the test) On the big day we all got dressed and ready and went to school with Addie. Addie rode the bus, while the rest of us took off a little early and made stops at Starbucks for caffeine and Taco Cabana for breakfast burritos....yum!

So many volunteers signed up to help that our assigned group of students was just Addie and her sweet friend Grace. Here they are in their class shirts....super cheesy but it did make them easy to spot amongst the millions of other kids at the zoo!

Little Brock enjoyed his second zoo trip and even wore his lion overalls to get in the spirit!

The girls loved seeing all the animals and were so sweet to include Doak. My favorite part of taking kids to the zoo is that they are just as excited about a squirrel running across the sidewalk as they are about the huge zoo animals!

We only had 3 hours to spend, including lunch time, so we didn't cover the whole zoo. But we made sure to hit all the "big animals". I think my favorite part of the zoo is the new Savannah exhibit where elephants, zebras, giraffes, and wild cats all roam in huge habitats.

The girls loved running into their classmates throughout the zoo.

Our last stop was to see all the monkeys and watch them swing and do tricks! After we hugged sweet Grace goodbye we took our whole family back home in our van. Doak, of course, fell asleep on the long ride home. Addie, Keri, and I stopped by Sonic for happy hour and chatted about our favorite animals on the drive. What a fun day at the zoo!

Dallas Zoo trip

IMG_2411

The last few days of Spring Break Cookie and Papa came to visit us on their way back from Tennessee. We decided to take them to the zoo! It was a perfect day to go to the zoo.

Since Keri's parents got us zoo passes this year we are loving taking trips down to the zoo to see our favorite animals.

Our sweet, easy, laid back boy hung out in the stroller or napped in the ERGO and was as happy as can be.

family zoo trip

Keri and Addie had the day off of school Monday for MLK Day. We decided to take a family trip to the Dallas Zoo. Jack and Dianna (Pop Pop and Nanna) gave our family zoo passes for a Christmas present this year and we couldn't wait to use them!

We drove to Plano and parked our car, then boarded the DART. The kids enjoyed the train ride.

IMG_2096
The trip took over an hour by train so I think next time we will just drive. We stayed entertained by looking out the window, snacking, and playing Angry Birds-the kids love this game!

what a cutie!

The kids were so happy to be at the zoo. By the time we got there we only had about 2 hours before closing. So we went to see all the "big" animals-giraffes, elephants, etc. The kids loved playing in this jeep in the African Savannah area.

It was a nice, cool day and the zoo was beautiful-so many pretty trees and plants. We had a great time and can't wait to go again soon!
