Halloween 2012

IMG_8492

This year for Halloween we had a football player (again!), a Ninja from Ninjago, and Domino the cat.

 IMG_8498

Addie chose to be a cat at her Storybook Parade and she also wanted to wear the same thing for Halloween.  For our night of trick or treating she added a black cat mask.

 IMG_8501

Doak is obsessed with Ninjago!  Luckily we had a dress up that would pass as a ninja, and we ordered some foam nunchucks online to complete the look.  Can you tell he likes it?

Since sweet Brock isn't quite old enough the voice his opinion about costumes yet, and since he LOVES all things football we decided to go with that for his costume again this year.  The vintage helmet and pads are decor from the boys' room and the pants and shirt are what he wears to the Mustang games.  No cost costume=score one for mommy!

A local shopping center held trick or treating starting at 5pm so I took the kids there before Keri got home from work.  It was much less intimidating to have all 3 kids on a sidewalk than going through a neighborhood.

After a quick Sonic car picnic we met Keri at our friends Lorissa and Mark's house.  The daddies took the kids around the neighborhood while Lorissa and I stayed at the house to pass out candy and visit.  Halloween will never be my favorite holiday, but I do love seeing the kids get so excited, dressing them up, and spending time with our family and friends!

labor day

IMG_3281

I love that Labor Day comes after the first week of school.  One last day of summer was just what we needed!  Keri had practice in the morning, so the kids and I hopped on our bikes and rode to a fun park.  They were excited to visit this park again, but they didn't realize that they had to ride 2 miles there and 2 miles back.  They were exhausted, but they made it!

 IMG_3282

Big second grader enjoyed a vacation from school for the day.

 IMG_3283

I asked Doak to smile for a picture and this is what I got.  This boy is OBSESSED with Lego Ninjago, so naturally this was his pose of choice.

 IMG_3285

The one thing the kids love best about this park is this tunnel/slide.  All three kids took their snacks in the tunnel and hung out for a while!  (Addie's face and Doak's dirty feet!)

 IMG_3288

Doak and Addie spent a big chunk of time pretending with this car.  They drove to England, Tennessee, and NYC : )

 IMG_3294

Keri made it home by early afternoon and I took the kids with me to the grocery store so that he could have a little nap.  We ended the day with a yummy dinner with some great new friends.  They have a precious newborn and Doak just had to hold him!  We're thankful for a great day to relax and rest!

Meredith came to visit!

IMG_8299

Meredith is a one-of-a-kind, gem of a girl.  She's one of 'our' girls from our small town near Dallas.  She's a youth from our church, was in our FCA huddle, babysat our kids, and was just in general was a big part of our small town life.  In June she called and told us that she wanted to come visit us.  We were thrilled, because all five of us love Meredith.

We had the best time with Meredith.  She stayed with us for 5 days and just hung out with us.  We went to parks, went swimming, went to church, ate out, cooked yummy meals and had some great quality time together.  She even gave Keri and me a date night!

We loved showing Meredith around our new town.

Meredith played legos with Doak everyday.  He could play legos 24/7 and she played for hours each day with him.

so silly!

so fun!

One thing about our coaching/teaching life is that we get a chance to meet and know some amazing teenagers.  We are blessed to still keep in contact with many of them through facebook, texting, and visits.

IMG_8307

Meredith has been a great role model to our kids and she's taught Keri and me about faith, being true to who God wants you to be, and how to chase big dreams. Meredith is starting college this fall and we are expectantly watching to see how God uses her!

We love you Meredith!

FCA Camp 2012

I can confidently say that this year's FCA Camp was the best one yet. We are so blessed to be able to do this each summer.  We roomed with the Salyers family again and, since we've moved 4 hours away from these best friends of ours, we were so excited to spend the whole week with them!

 IMG_8261

This isn't the greatest picture to start off this post, but it happened the first night and I have to include it.  The coach and I have a long history with possessed smoke detectors.  As I was getting the kids ready for bed that first night of camp we heard the beep of a smoke detector.  After hunting around the 3 level apartment we realized it was in our kids' room.  Of course.  The apartment manager was out for the night and we had no batteries or ladder.  Keri was working on getting the schedule set for football camp that week, but when he finally headed home he stopped by and picked up enough batteries for the whole apartment, as we know from experience that when one goes off and you fix it, you can bet another will go off an hour later.  Just a funny night!

 IMG_2903

The kids slept through the beeping of the smoke detectors and the train at midnight.  In the morning (and every other time the train came through) we all ran outside to watch it.  Brock especially loved it.

 IMG_8262

Great minds think alike, Ashley and I both brought wagons to pull the kids to and from the cafeteria and the pool everyday.

These kids had the best time together!  Rylan 5, Doak 4, and Brock 19 months enjoying a poolside dinner at camp.

The girls of the group.  Poor Addie is outnumbered by all the boys!

Cody and Keri have the best friendship.  I'm so thankful for the whole Salyers family.

 IMG_2912

We had a fun week!  The kids had 2 days of VBS in the morning while Ashley and I went to the women's Bible study.  The speaker was fabulous this year and I learned so much!  In the evenings we had dinner poolside as a family and then the kids went to childcare while Keri and I went to couples Bible study.  Again, the couple leading it was so gifted, and we learned so much about how to improve our marriage.  We also had free time in the afternoons.  One day Ashley and I took the kids to the aTm ballpark, where they recently built an awesome playground!

 IMG_8267

We got all the kids dressed in their patriotic gear on the 4th of July.  Look at these sweet friends!

 IMG_8268

I love that these kids are growing up together!

 IMG_2913

Here's a very blurry picture of the kids and Keri after breakfast at the cafeteria.

 IMG_8271

On the night of the 4th we parked our cars up on the top of one of the parking garages on campus.  The kids hung out in the back of Keri's truck and feasted on watermelon while we waited for the fireworks to start.

 IMG_8273

Brock loves watermelon!

 IMG_8277

Brock and Hudson, messy and happy!

 IMG_8275

One of my favorite parts of FCA camp is being around other coaching families.  There is a certain camaraderie among us and it's so refreshing to not have to explain why we moved again, but just to know everyone understands.  Bethany and her family have become some of our favorites to reconnect with each summer!

 IMG_8278

Love spending time with my big girl watching the fireworks.

 IMG_8279

Brock is crazy about his Daddy.  He sat with Keri during the whole fireworks show.

My view during the fireworks.

Our best friends, the Salyers.  Hudson, almost 3, Rylan 5

Keri always amazes me with how he can plan and execute this football camp for almost 300 athletes and 30 coaches.  I'm so proud of him and I love hearing all the other coaches and FCA staff brag on what a great job he does.  (His first year of camp there were around 50 kids in the football program.  This year they had 280+ athletes in football and the whole sports camp is now the biggest in the country!)

 IMG_8295

This summer it hit me.  We may never be able to go to Pine Cove or Kanakuk for family camp, but this is our family camp.  This is what our kids will remember.  I'm so thankful for that.

friends from 'home'

Before we even left Dallas we had firm plans to see the Hubers as soon as school was out.  Our whole family was so excited and we counted down the days until their arrival!

IMG_8125

As soon as they pulled up the kids took right back up playing together.  The girls shared some books.

 IMG_8126

The boys (in coordinating outfits) played cars on the back porch.

 IMG_8133

The big kids played so well together.

And Brock loved being around his big friends!

We spent two days at the pools and enjoyed soaking up the sunshine!

Haley loved taking care of Brock.

Jenn, who has been my personal decorator for the past few years, helped me tremendously by hanging pictures, rearranging furniture and helping me recover my kitchen chairs!

Jenn and I also got to have a fun night out with Angie!  We had the best time catching up and eating delicious cheesecake!  I'm so thankful for both these sweet friends!

I love that distance and time only made these friendships grow.  We can't wait for our next get together!
