reading is FUN!

We love to do all kinds of learning at our house. And we especially love to read! So this summer we issued a challenge to our kids. We wanted to see how many books they could read over their break.

Addie read 175 books, and 90% of those were chapter books.  We made weekly visits to the library and she just devoured book after book!  (some of her favorite series are Magic Tree House, Nancy Drew, American Girl, Hardy Boys, plus she read quite a few classics like Stuart Little, Pollyanna, Charlotte's Web, etc.)  I don't think I ever asked Addie to go read, it really is her favorite thing to do!

Doak read 30 books.  (very simple easy readers or he retold the story of longer books to us).  He got really motivated toward the end of August and had so much fun reading!

We are so proud of both kids for their hard work and mostly for their love of learning.  They got to pick a toy out for their efforts-Addie picked a stuffed dog that barks, snores, moves, and eats.  Doak is obsessed with Ninjago and picked out Jay's jet.  They are already talking about what they will read and earn next summer! : )

bloopers

Our kids say the funniest things. Here's a few recent conversations I never want to forget!

I was discussing good food choices. I told the kids that God gave us fruits, vegetables, grains, and meats and those whole foods are the best things for us to eat. Then I picked up the bag of cheetos and asked "who made these?" Doak shouted, "SATAN!!!"

--------------------

Doak took a break from playing outside to run inside for a quick bathroom break. He finished and ran straight to the back door. Keri's mom called to him, "Wait, Doak did you wash your hands?" Doak's response was priceless, "Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't."

--------------------

During the dinner prayer Addie interrupted and prayed her own prayer, "God please make my mom like cats so I can get a kitten." (not gonna happen, cat haters of America unite!)

--------------------

Addie asked, "Why doesn't God have a wife?"

--------------------

After noticing that all their toys say "made in China" on the bottom, Addie had this question. "If all these things are made in China, was God made in China?"

---------------------

Addie: "Mom, if Dad ever gets picked to be President, ask him if I can sleep in the White House bathtub."

----------------------

Addie: "I can't wait until Brock can talk because I have a lot of questions for him. Like, 'what does goo goo ga ga mean'?"

car seats

IMG_6599

It's time for Brock to move to a convertible car seat. He had almost reached the maximum weight on his infant seat, and we also wanted to send the infant seat to Tennessee for our niece to use, so it was the perfect time to move him. Doak graciously gave up his car seat to his baby brother

and was given a new booster that he loves! (thanks Cookie and Papa!) He has wanted to be in a booster for a long time now.

Addie still has her same booster seat, but I just had to include a picture of my girl too. She is so big!

losing teeth

IMG_6486

I took this pretty girl to the dentist in July for a cleaning and to check into a small problem . . .

IMG_6490

. . . her permanent tooth was coming in behind her baby tooth! The dentist confirmed that we did need to pull her baby tooth and we might as well pull both front teeth. X rays showed that the other permanent front tooth was coming in the same way.

The pediatric dentist was amazing and Addie did great. When I came back after the procedure was over she was so excited to have finally 'lost' her first tooth!

I love her new smile!
