Our next stop was Abilene to see Cookie and Papa. Right away the kids ran to jump on the swings in the backyard. They love playing out back!

Papa has been wanting a sprinkler system in his yard for many years and this summer he got one! After a few delays from the work crew, it ended up that they were finishing up while we were there. That didn't keep us from playing outside, or petting the neighbor's cat one morning!

It's such a restful time when we go to my parent's house. Keri and Brock enjoyed the cool a/c and a good book!

We were so blessed that my grandparents drove down from Oklahoma to see us! And my mom's brother Bob drove up from Austin. Pa and Brock shared an afternoon snack. (apparently Brock went sans clothes on this day!)

Our second day in Abilene we got to celebrate this big girl's 7th birthday!

Happy birthday Addie! Can't believe our little girl is 7!

Addie wanted to visit the Abilene Zoo on her birthday. So we went early in the morning to beat the heat and had the best time!

Pa took Brock to see the alligator and flamingos.
The huge alligator was swimming right underneath us!

Papa, brave Doak, and Uncle Bob petted a snake! (and Addie too!)

I love how the peacock roams around the zoo, it's beautiful!

The big kids and me taking a little break in the shade!

Ma and Addie sitting down to watch the lions.

Cookie took Brock over to see the catfish and turtles in the lake.

After resting that afternoon it was time to open presents.

One thing I love about my kids is that they (usually) don't beg for specific toys. Probably because we're picky about what they watch on tv, they rarely know what toys are the "it" toys. This does, however, make it hard at birthdays to try to find a great gift! Keri and I went back and forth but ended up getting Addie a birthday outfit and some books. She loves Magic Tree House book and is fascinated by all things Titanic!

Thanks to McKay's Bakery, we had a delicious birthday cake to share with everyone!

That evening Bob had to head back to Austin.

We all enjoyed his company, and the kids especially had so much fun playing with him!

This spring Cookie let me know about the Dr. Seuss Festival that was coming to town. The timing worked out perfectly! The first event was the evening of Addie's birthday.

There was a parade, the kids got to meet some famous Dr. Seuss characters, hear read alouds of Dr. Seuss stories, and do some great activities!

After the parade Addie got her face painted-she chose snowflakes. Maybe she hoped they would cool her off!

Cookie did a great job getting us organized and taking us to all the events!

We can't wait to go back next year for the 2nd annual Children's Art and Literacy Festival and to see our family!
