newfound independence

Almost every day this last week I heard a strange sound in our house-silence! As most parents of young kids know, silence usually means trouble. But that's not the case in this house lately. Sweet Addie has taken to playing by herself or reading by herself in her room. Gone are the days of me taking Addie back to her room multiple times during her story time/quiet time. She happily plays all by herself for 30 - 45 minutes at a time. Independence indeed!

And sweet Doak found new independence 2 weeks ago when he started climbing out of his crib. He has been climbing out a few times every night at bedtime. So far, no injuries, but we hated knowing he was climbing out and worrying that he might get hurt. So tonight when Keri put together his new crib (his other crib had been recalled so we got to pick out a new one) Keri put it up as a toddler bed.

He only got up twice after we laid him down tonight and was MUCH easier than Addie's first night in a toddler bed at 21 months. We're praying this is a smooth transition and that he doesn't give up napping!

Wonderful - good luck. I just ordered Beclynn's bed - I hope she does well too. I think the crib is just too small for her so she isn't sleeping well at home. She has been at my parents in a big girl bed and doing fine - however Maelynn was in bed with her - so we may wake up each morning with her in Maelynn's bed! :)
