the end of the road and a big THANK YOU!

Last night's game didn't have the outcome we had hoped for. The Hawks had a rough start and the score was 21-0 in the first quarter. But they fought hard and by the end of the 4th quarter the score was 52-47. We had the ball ready to take it down the field for a touchdown. But we just couldn't get it done. It was a heartbreak of a loss. But what an amazing season it was.

The life of a coach and his family is one not understood by many. My favorite coach is one I'm proud to stand behind, cheer for, and work beside. I'm thrilled to haul the kids and all their gear across Texas every Friday night in the fall to be there for him. And I'm blessed that he wants us there. I love the way he searches the stands for us before every kick off-signing 'i love you' before he turns his attention to the field. I love watching him during games. I've seen him run the sidelines as his running back breaks for a touchdown. I've seen him embrace players who have just made big mistakes. I've seen him 'bump' guys that have made winning plays. I've seen him passionately discuss with other coaches. I've seen countless numbers of players come up to him after every game for a hug and a pat on the back. I've seen players from years past drive in from college to watch a game and see Coach T. And when I see all this, I know this crazy life we have is not just about winning games or going to the playoffs. It's about kids. It's a ministry. It's about integrity, perseverance, hard work.

And that's what the Hawk Football team displayed this year. An amazing group of kids, an amazing group of coaches, an amazing community that rallied around us and cheered with us for 14 weeks.

To all our friends and family-THANK YOU! You came to games, helped with the kids, held my huge bag!, walked me to my car, kept me company, and cheered along side me. You called to see how the game was, emailed with your support, called to make sure I was still sane, called to see if I needed anything. With Keri gone so much during the season, I crave adult conversation and interaction and you all saw that need and reached out!

To all my fellow football widows-what a blessing it is to have you in my life! No one understands like you all and I'm so thankful for you all!

To our parents- you consistently go above and beyond. You have taken days off, driven many hours, had your weekends consumed with football. You've worked all week long at your jobs only to come and work overtime with the grandkids so that I could have a break for an hour or two. You've become passionate about something that you probably didn't ever think you'd care so much about. All because it's important to your son. Your support in and out of the football season is one of the greatest blessings in our life. We love you so much.

Until next season-signing off!

I had looked up the score in yesterday's DMN online and was sad to see it was the end of the season for the Hawks. But what a ride! I can't even pretend to know what's like in the world of Varsity Texas football, but I certainly understand being married to a coach. What an amazing support system you have!! You are very lucky! Give my best to Keri!

Well said Natalie! I'm sorry the Hawks lost but it sounds like the impact you and Keri have on those kids is much bigger than any win or loss. Merry Christmas to your sweet family.
Love,
Lindsay

Love this tribute to football and wish there was a better outcome to the game. I read in the paper that they fought hard...glad they hung in there like they did though! What a great football coach's wife you are!

saw your mom this weekend and I told her how I've come to "love" your sweet family through the "eyes" of your words and pictures. Thank you Natalie for sharing yourself so dearly! I told her that she could find Elly's blog from yours, but I don't know if you have her on yours... so... Debbi, if you look here is Elly's
