Addie has been sick since Wednesday night. Wednesday she had no symptoms except fever (highest around 104) and low energy level. Friday we went to the pediatrician and she was tested for strep and that came back negative. Her tonsils were swollen and her throat was red. Her left ear was red and had a little bit of fluid but it wasn't horribly infected. We were stumped as to why her fever got so high. We got some antibiotics and decided we'd come back Monday if she was still sick. Fast forward to Friday night. Keri had his first Hawk scrimmage and we didn't go. I put the kids to bed around 7:15 and settled in for a quiet night. At 8:30 Addie woke up crying and screaming. She was burning up. I took her temp and it was 107. Not 100.7 but 107! Yikes! So I called my dad and he told me to get her into the bathtub and try to cool her down. I gave her a dose of motrin and got her in the bathroom but before I could put her in the tub she threw up. I called Keri and told him to head home and find someone to keep Doak since he was fast asleep. In the meantime I got Addie's temp down to 105.1. I called our pediatrician's night nurse and was told to go to the ER quickly. Our friend (and head coach's wife) Sarah came over to keep Doak. What a blessing! And even more amazing was the fact that I had pumped somewhat recently and had milk for a bottle in case Doak woke up. I'm so glad Doak was taken care of so I could focus on Addie. Right as we were leaving to go to the ER Addie's temp was down to 103.9. She was calm and did well on the ride over, in the waiting room, and in triage. The triage nurse didn't believe me when I said her temp was 107. I promise I didn't make it up! Addie was still hot so we gave her some tylenol and waited to get a room and see the doctor. When we finally got called back to a room Addie and Keri laid down and slept for a while.

The doctor came in a talked to us and said that she'd like to do a urinalysis to test for a UTI. Thank you God that Addie is potty trained and we didn't have to cath her! We got her sample and they took it off to test. In the mean time the doctor ordered chest x rays to rule out pnemonia (still not sure why she did this) and ordered blood work and IV fluids. Our wonderful nurse tried two times to get the iv in and couldn't get it in right. So he called the triage nurse over to help and they finally got it in. At this point Addie was so upset, tired, sick, and wanting to go home. She hated the iv and kept saying, "Mommy can you take it out?" Poor girl.

She finally fell asleep with me holding her up in the bed. The test came back positive for UTI so Addie got a dose of some serious antibiotic in her IV. She was so happy when we got to take the IV out. She really wanted to go home. The doctor told us that they'd call us if the blood work or urine cultures indicated any other infections and we haven't heard from them so I'm guessing no news is good news. Saturday and today she has been feeling better. Her highest temp today was 102.5. We're praying for the antibiotics to really kick in tonight and that she'll be back to her normal self soon!

i'm so sad addie (and y'all!) had to go through all of that. praying away for her!
Wow, my heart started racing when you said 107 degrees. I had to quickly scroll through the rest of it just to make sure everything turned out okay. What a scary night. Praying for Addie and your family!
I hope Addie is feeling so much better! Praying that this is a much healthier week for you guys!
I can't even imagine, I totally started crying for you both! I think the nurses at the ER never believe what temp we take, unless they get the same temp - which they never do since we have done things to try and help it down. I can't imagine how hard it was to hear her telling you to take it out! We love you all!!
Oh my!!! I cannot imagine a trip to the ER or how scary that must have been. Good thing you have one tough little girl and one very comforting God! I'll be praying that Addie is back to her bouncy self very soon!
I cannot even imagine how you felt that night. Praise God that she has a diagnosis and is getting better.
And how in the world did you think of bringing your camera and taking pictures inside the hospital?! You are a true blogger my friend! :-)
Don't worry I didn't bring my camera! I used my camera on my phone. :)
we've been to the ER 3x collectively with our girls, so i can relate. i know it's not a fun experience! i'm so glad they were able to figure out what was wrong.
We have had that sweet girl in our prayers all weekend and have checked with Cookie on status. Hope she is much better today. Love you.
