a few days apart

This week Keri and I spent our first days away from Addie. The most we had been away from her before was one evening from 6pm to 10am the next morning. This week it was 4 days apart! Keri and I planned a little get away before school started so my mom came to get Addie and took her back to Abilene Wednesday. On Wednesday my awesome friend Ashley came over and helped me paint Addie's room. It needed some serious love and it looks so much better now! Thanks Ashley for all your help!

Thursday Keri and I slept late (first time in who knows how long!) and looked at cars. Guess I should explain . . . I have a Tahoe and Keri has been driving a '94 Honda Accord that wasn't pretty but got him to and from work. Last summer I backed the Tahoe into the Honda and pretty much jacked up one area by the front right tire. We never had it fixed because the car wasn't worth much and it wasn't affecting the function of the car. Two weeks ago Keri's car was broken into and the CD player was stolen right outside of our house. Strike 2 against the Honda. Then the following week Keri went with the SGHS 7 on 7 (summer league) football team to the state tournament in College Station. Keri rode with another coach and parked his car at SGHS overnight. When he got back the next day his car had been vandalized. The hood was seriously dented in like someone had jumped on it. The side mirrors were broken off, the windshield and driver's side window were totally smashed in. We knew it wouldn't be worth it to fix the car, so we thought about donating it or selling it for parts. As a last ditch effort we called Car Max and ended up getting $1000 for it-much more than we thought we'd get! So, now we're trying to find a second car. I think we've found one and I'll post more about it later. Fast forward to last Wednesday night. Keri and I were planning our get away to the San Antonio/Gruene area. Wednesday night the A/C in our Tahoe went out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We had known it was going to need work soon and actually had an appointment set up to get it fixed in Abilene Monday for about $600 less than we could get it done for in the DFW area. So we switched our reservations from San Antonio and booked a room at the Renaissance Hotel in Dallas. We drove over Friday and spent two nights. During our weekend we slept really, really late, ate lots of good food, visited the JFK museum, slept some more and ate some more. It was a great relaxing weekend, but we were ready to see Miss Addie today. Of course she had a great time with Cookie and Papa in Abilene.

Here are some pictures from the week:

We're doing the same thing this week. J's an Asst. Principal now, and the "school year" starts for him on Monday. We'll be away from M for THREE NIGHTS! She'll be in your town at her grandma's house (J's mom). I've been talking it up to her as her "vacation". They have a huge agenda already planned for her! She should have a great time, meanwhile I'M a WRECK! :0)
